Wuling Hongguang is a car produced by SAIC-GM-Wuling.

The Wuling Hongguang is the first cross-disciplinary self-developed product launched by SAIC-GM-Wuling, positioned between commercial vehicles and passenger cars. This product boasts a sleek exterior design, offering a spacious and versatile driving space that is both practical and comfortable.

On September 6, 2010, the Wuling Hongguang was first introduced, offering models equipped with 1.2L and 1.4L engines. It had a total of 9 models for consumers to choose from, and provided a seating layout of 7-8 seats; [4] In 2015, the third generation of Wuling Hongguang, the Hongguang S1, was launched. Compared to the previous two generations of Wuling Hongguang, the Hongguang S1 underwent upgrades in terms of body size and power, and placed greater emphasis on driving comfort. The 2022 Wuling Hongguang V, Wuling Hongguang PLUS (2019, 2020, 2021), and the 2019 Wuling Hongguang S3, as derivative models of Wuling Hongguang, are also being sold simultaneously.

The appearance is elegant, blending fashionable elements

The Wuling Hongguang adopts the currently popular double U-shaped front-end design and a three-dimensional straight waterfall chrome intake grille, which not only makes the front end look more fashionable and dynamic but also inherits some characteristics of the general-purpose vehicle series. The striking eagle-eye crystal diamond headlights and plume-shaped crystal diamond front fog lights further enhance the vehicle's grade. Two vigorous and powerful lines protrude from the engine hood, giving a strong visual sense of power. The body of the Wuling Hongguang does not have any eye-catching designs, which reflects the stability that a business model should have. The streamlined body design has achieved a drag coefficient of only 0.36, which not only helps reduce fuel consumption but also effectively reduces noise during driving, thereby improving the ride comfort inside the vehicle.

The large-sized roof rack equipped on the top of the vehicle body further embodies the multifunctional characteristics of a compact business vehicle. The integrated curved tail fin at the rear of the vehicle body can effectively reduce turbulence during driving and provide appropriate downforce. The dynamic side waistline and make the side of the vehicle body more layered and the lines smoother.

Exquisite interior and flexible space

Like many European and American luxury commercial vehicle models, the interior of the Wuling Hongguang adopts a completely sedan-like design style. The dashboard is simple and eye-catching, and the layout of various functions on the console is reasonable and within reach. The color scheme of black on top and light on the bottom, coupled with the wraparound cockpit design, adds a homely atmosphere and a sense of intimacy. As an economical car, the interior craftsmanship of the Wuling Hongguang has reached a very high level. Both the mounting process of interior components and the texture of the materials used are outstanding among domestic cars. The seats are available in both fabric and leather, providing excellent support and wrapping, ensuring that even long rides won't feel fatiguing. The driver's seat in the high-end model even features eight-way adjustment, which, combined with the adjustable tilt steering wheel, allows drivers of any size to easily find the ideal sitting position.

The flexible and versatile interior space is also a highlight of the Wuling Hongguang, featuring a 2+2+3 seating layout. Thanks to its 2720mm wheelbase, the passenger space inside the car is quite ideal. By adjusting the seating arrangement, users can also create various types of cargo space on their own.

The entire series of Wuling Hongguang comprises nine models with two different displacements, resulting in certain differences in configuration. The rich range of models provides users with significant autonomy and choice. It is worth mentioning that there are as many as 15 air conditioning vents distributed throughout the Wuling Hongguang, creating a three-dimensional air supply environment.

Powerful and robust handling

The Wuling Hongguang is equipped with two engines, the P-TEC 1.2L and 1.5L-DVVT, which are designed and manufactured according to General Motors' global powertrain standards. Both engines feature a double overhead camshaft design, which is relatively rare in small-displacement engines. While ensuring ample power, they also exhibit good fuel economy, significantly reducing vehicle operating costs.

Among them, the P-TEC 1.2L engine was honored as "China's Top Ten Engines of 2009", boasting a high power output of 52.2 kW. The 1.5L engine, newly developed by SAIC-GM-Wuling, is a high-performance engine with parameters comparable to 1.6L displacement engines. It achieves a maximum power of 75 kW at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 146 N·m at 4200 rpm, with significant improvements in torque, noise reduction, and service life. Equipped with the P-TEC 1.5L engine, the Wuling Hongguang can reach a top speed of 160 km/h and boasts a comprehensive fuel consumption of only 7.2 L per 100 kilometers. The Wuling Hongguang features a five-link swing arm rear suspension with excellent shock absorption, and its transmission system adopts a front-engine, rear-drive configuration. The load distribution between the front and rear axles is 45:55, ensuring a reasonable center of gravity for the entire vehicle. The four wheels exhibit relatively balanced grip, making it easy to handle on uphill slopes.

In order to enhance the handling and driving stability of the vehicle, and fundamentally surpass products of the same price range, SAIC-GM-Wuling invited the British company Lotus to tune the suspension of the Wuling Hongguang. After one and a half years and three stages of tuning, the Wuling Hongguang finally achieved a balance between handling and comfort.

Safe and reliable, with superior craftsmanship in the body

Moreover, Wuling Hongguang strives for excellence in safety performance. The vehicle adopts the TUD (TOTAL-USED DESIGN) design concept to ensure a reasonable structural layout of the entire vehicle. Its key body components are largely made of high-strength steel, accounting for more than 80% of the total; the B-pillar of the body adopts high-strength steel reinforcement plates, forming a solid support structure on the side panels; both the inner panels of the front and rear side doors adopt a laser welding panel design, which is rarely seen on sedans priced at 100,000 yuan, greatly improving the overall rigidity and strength of the side doors, and effectively reducing the weight of the entire vehicle and fuel consumption.

In terms of safety features, the Wuling Hongguang, benchmarked against higher-tier models, is equipped with a plethora of safety features such as ABS+EBD, dual airbags, force-limiting seat belts, LED high-mounted brake lights, reverse radar, rear window heating and defrosting function, rear wiper, child lock on the middle door, automatic locking function, headlight/door unclosed warning device, remote key with electronic anti-theft system, and automatic car locating function. It stands at an absolute leading level among vehicles in the same price range.
