On April 26, the 2026 "Liuzhou Enterprise Day" and "Liuzhou Craftsman Day" event, together with the launch ceremony of the eighth "Longcheng Talent Week," was held at the Liuzhou Industrial Museum. At the event, the "Guangxi New Energy Vehicle High‑End Aluminium Alloy Components Innovation Consortium," led by SGMW, was officially inaugurated. He Yibo, Vice President of SGMW, and Li Wei, Director of Quality & Development and Excellence Operations at the Procurement & Partner Ecosystem Centre, attended the ceremony.
Guangxi's aluminium industry has continued to expand in scale, but high‑end automotive aluminium alloy components have long relied on supply from outside the region. Insufficient deep‑processing capacity has become a prominent bottleneck constraining the resilience of the industrial chain. In precise response to the autonomous region's "string‑the‑beads‑into‑a‑chain" initiative, this Innovation Consortium has established a "1+5+2" deep industry‑university‑research integration system, bringing together eight partner institutions including Wuhan University of Technology, Hunan University, Shanghai Huizhong, and Wuling Liuji. Through full‑chain collaboration from materials R&D to vehicle application, the consortium is focused on unlocking the "molten aluminium – components – complete vehicle" value chain, driving the industry chain from a raw material base towards a high‑end manufacturing cluster.

To date, the consortium has established the Guangxi Pan‑Aluminium Advanced Manufacturing Base in Laibin, where key components such as steering knuckles and housings have already entered mass production. Looking towards 2030, the consortium aims to achieve localised substitution of eight categories of key components, reach 100% local sourcing for key materials, and exceed 10 billion RMB in industrial output value, comprehensively enhancing Guangxi's core competitiveness in new energy vehicle lightweighting.
The official inauguration of this consortium marks a significant milestone in SGMW's implementation of the national "dual carbon" strategy and the autonomous region's "string‑the‑beads‑into‑a‑chain" initiative. Going forward, the consortium will continue to be guided by the principles of "integrity and perseverance, innovation and transformation," helping Guangxi's new energy vehicle industry seize the technological high ground and contributing "Guangxi strength" to the high‑quality development of China's new energy vehicle industry.
